Matthew comes 3rd in Nationals

On Sunday the 10’th of June Matthew took part in the 2012 U12 National Championships at the University of Wolverhampton in Walsall. Matthew started his day by playing Cameron Elliott but Matthew proved too good beating Elliott 11-7 11-3 11-5. Next Matthew played George Hazell; Matthew beat Hazell 11-9 11-4 11-7. The next game saw Matthew win his group by beating TJ O’Sullivan 16-14 11-7 11-4. Thanks to the coach (Phil Handy) Matthew won his group without losing a game. Matthew then got a bye into the last 16 without playing another match.

Matthew’s next match was against Kidi Martin-Paulo. This was a tough match but

Matthew sealed the victory with the help of the coach to win 3-1 which saw him through to the quarter-finals. Matthew’s quarter-finals match was against Lewis Acton. This was the toughest match so far but thanks to a lot of help from the coach Matthew won 3-2.

Next it was the semi’s: Matthew had to play against the 1st seed (and eventual winner) Alex Ramsden but Matthew wasn’t good enough to beat him. Matthew got close in the 1st game 11-9 but lost the rest 11-5 11-4. So Matthew ended up in 3rd place.
