TABLE-TOPPING G’S GEED UP BY FOURTH SUCCESSIVE WIN!

The New Milton Table Tennis Club won five of their eleven matches in the Bournemouth & District league last week, one of the wins coming at the expense of one of their own teams in a local derby.

The F team’s winning start in Div 2 came to a grinding halt as they lost 4-6 to their E team despite a terrific hat-trick from Ben Greene. Stand-in captain Malcolm Floyd came up with the other win and it would have been a brace had he not lost to the E’s Simon Golding 12-14 in the fifth and final set. The doubles were needed for a draw but Greene and Floyd were outgunned by Simon Daish & Simon Golding who won in three straight sets. It was Greene’s second hat-trick of the week for Milton as he had already played up a division to help the C team to their 6-4 win over Lynwood A in Div 1.

The F team’s loss means that the G team (Terry Jenvey, Bob Fagan & Dave Cuddon) are now the only Milton team to win all four of their opening matches this season. They were relegated from Div 2 last season but currently sit at the top of Div 3, hoping for a quick return. Fagan (pictured below) was Man of the Match in their 7-3 away win against Ringwood C as he came up with his first league hat-trick for a number of years, and captain Jenvey and Cuddon bagged a brace apiece. They almost came away with maximum points but Jenvey & Cuddon lost the doubles in the fifth and final set.

The A team (Steve Hemmings, Gerard Redman & Rob Blackmore) came up with their first win in the Premier this season with a 9-1 victory over Ringwood A who didn’t help their cause by turning up a player short. The B team (Simon Heaps, John Hook & Jack Trafford) also came up with a 9-1 Premier win of their own albeit against a full Merton D side, thanks to hat-tricks from Heap and Hook.
