HAT-TRICK SWAN SONG FOR JAPAN BOUND THOMAS

New Milton Table Tennis Club had a much better week in the Bournemouth & District league as they won six out of their nine matches. The B team were gifted four valuable Premier points as second-placed Bmth Sports B were unable to put out a team.

Thomas Daish’s first hat-trick of the campaign helped his J team to a 7-3 victory over Div 3 strugglers Bmth Sports J home at the Grange. Thomas (pictured below) had clearly saved his best for last as this was his final match before heading off to Japan for a teaching position in Shizuoka, near Mt Fuji.

The F team (Steve Cheesman, Ben Greene & Malcolm Floyd) had their best win of the season in Div 2 as they beat the struggling Broadstone C 8-2 in their own back yard. Captain Cheesman led from the front with a terrific hat-trick and was joined in a treble by Greene, the club’s joint most improved player last season. Floyd got the better of his old nemesis Melvyn Gregory, and Cheesman and Greene combined well to take the doubles to secure maximum points.

The G team (Terry Jenvey, Dave Cuddon & Bob Fagan) had won all of their Div 3 matches until their recent defeat by their J team, but got back to winning ways with a 7-3 victory over Bmth Sports K at Chapel Gate. This win over close rivals Bourne puts the Gees joint top with Winton YMCA D who were held to a draw by Merton G.

Also in Div 3, the H team (Ian Linney, Lewis Reading & Dave Sutton) continued their unbeaten run since losing to their G team in their first match of the season with a 6-4 win over Winton YMCA C. Considerably helping the cause is Sutton who only lost one match all last season and remains unbeaten this campaign.

Malcolm Douglas’ first hat-trick in Div 5 this season helped his L team to only their second win of their campaign as they beat Bmth Sports M 7-3 at Chapel Gate. This excellent result helped Milton to leap-frog over the Bourne to occupy the fourth slot on games difference. Full results details appear below:-
