There is now only one of New Milton’s teams left in the Cup proper and one in the “Plate”. Read the rest of this entry

SHAUN LIFTS TWO ST DENYS TROPHIES!

I asked Shaun how he got on at the St Denys Open last Sunday (10th February) and he casually informed me that he won both the “Open” and “Handicap” titles.  Being the “shrinking violet” that he is, I had to prise some details from him which I am delighted to share with a wider audience.  Well done Shaun! GOOD WEEK FOR NEW MILTON’S YOUNG GUNS! (WEEK 15 RESULTS)

New Milton Table Tennis Club lost six out of their nine matches in the Bournemouth & District league last week, their highest week’s tally of defeats so far this season. In Div 5, the table-topping J team could only field two players due to holidays and sickness and they lost 2-8 at home to Bmth Sports U. However, in the lower reaches of that division, the K team did the double over Merton J by repeating their first round 6-4 victory. This was a really tremendous effort by Milton’s trio of up and coming youngsters; 15 year old Jack Fisher came up with his second hat-trick of the campaign, fellow 15 year old Lucy Craddock bagged a brace and 14 year old Andrew Stainton chipped in with the one win again. Young Stainton almost matched Craddock’s brace in his final singles against Merton’s Maggie Brown. He lost the first two sets but displayed great maturity to come back to take the next two sets, but sadly lost his fifth and final set 8-11.

In a good week for the club’s rising young stars, in addition to Fisher’s treble, further hat-tricks came from Peter Daish (14), Luke Gurton (17), Matthew Winter (19), as well as the evergreen Frank Handy. Read the rest of this entry

Matthew Daish recently won the Hampshire Schools U13 Individual Competition at Waterside Table Tennis Club. About 60 children from all over Hampshire met at Waterside for the event. Players were competing in the Under-11, Under-13 and Under-16, boys and girls, categories for a place in the National Schools Finals which will be played in Doncaster in April. Matthew’s coach Phil Handy was also present to give Matthew encouragement throughout the day and reported that ‘Matthew dominated the final’ beating his opponent Artur Caltabiano 3-0.

Draws Galore For New Milton Players (Week 14 Results)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club’s teams drew five out of their eight matches in the Bournemouth and District league and won the other three, this being the first time this season that they haven’t lost any of their matches.

The F team tied with the G team in their Div 3 local derby, having lost to them in the first round. The G’s cause wasn’t helped by them turning up a player short.

Strangely enough, the other three draws all came in matches against Lynwood teams. The A team did particularly well to hold Lynwood A to a draw in the Premier as they had to call up two players from Div 1 mainly due to holiday absences. Alan Gordon and 12 year old Matthew Daish gave good accounts of themselves by winning one each, and dependable regular Phil Handy notched up yet another Premier hat-trick.

AND THEN THERE WERE THREE! (T&D CUP RESULTS)

New Milton Table Tennis Club didn’t have a very good week in the Annual Times & Directory Handicap Cup competition as they only won two out of their seven matches. The two victories came in Round 2 of the Cup proper as the A and B teams battled their way into Round 3. The J and K teams lost their first round “Plate” matches, so the only Milton team to proceed to Round 2 of the Plate is the E team who had a “bye”.

The A team, who were runners-up in the past two seasons, did exceptionally well to scrape through 5-4 as they were a player short (just Steve Hemmings & Alan Gordon). The C team (Martin Jerome, Max De Kment & James Lewis) looked to be joining their B team (Julie Smillie, Matthew Daish & Zoltan Karib-Barath) in Round 3 as they went 4-2 up, needing just the one to take them through. It was not to be however as Bourne’s Dave Pang turned up late and beat the Milton trio.  Afterwards Max summed it all up by saying that they had been well and truly “Pangcaked”!  Full results are below:-
