“Plate” Disappointment for New Milton E (T&D Plate Final)

The E team did fantastically well to reach the Times and Directory Handicap “Plate” final which took place at Merton on Wednesday 17th April.  However, their opposition, Bmth Sports H didn’t play like a team who have just been relegated from Div 1 and beat Milton by 5-1.  There was a large number of spectators, including four from New Milton.  There was E team captain Bev of course who had dropped himself for the evening, Shaun, Malcolm, and it was good to see Brian Vibert.

At times, the event had a bit of an intra-club feel to it as Bourne’s captain J-D Marshall often practices at New Milton.  It was a very friendly evening, played in a very good spirit, and a delighted J-D was to be seen celebrating at the Carpenters Arms later on with pal Nolan George, witnessed by Shaun and Malcolm.

The full match report kindly produced by Tournament Secretary Ian Robertson appears after the photos which were kindly taken by Shaun.  It is only right to show the winning team first, so from left to right, J-D Marshall (captain), Daniel Prakesh and Becky Kuzu:-

FINAL WEEK LEAGUE RESULTS

As previously reported, the H team narrowly missed promotion from Div 4 to Div 3 last week, so commiserations to them.  Congratulations to the G team who won the Div 3 title. and to the J team who go up to Div 4 on games difference.

We did actually manage to get a photo of Ian Linney at Sway the other week, so it’s only fair to include a photo in the final league report, especially as his brace helped his F team to a well deserved point in Div 3.

STOP PRESS: CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR FOR H TEAM!

It was a “clash of the titans” in Div 4 as the H team (Matthew Winter, Luke Gurton & Svet Ignatov) slugged it out with Bmth Sports R (Matt Broadhead, Jon Tennant & Tom Hickman) for the second promotion spot at Arnewood School on Tuesday night (9th April).

Milton needed at least a draw against the Bourne hopefuls, and Milton had reason to believe as they had beaten Bourne 7-3 in the first round in their own back yard.  It was nip and tuck throughout but Bournemouth had it won at 6-3.  Winter and Ignatov combined well in the doubles to take them in three straight sets but the Bourne were already dreaming of Div 3 table tennis.  Congratulations Bournemouth and commiserations to Milton.

The Jays Join The Gees In The Promotion Stakes (Week 21 Results)

As previously reported, the G team beat close rivals Merton E by 6-4 at the Arnewood School last week to take the Div 3 title with a week still left to go. The J team could only take a point off Nimrod C in Div 5, but it was enough to secure promotion to Div 4 as runners-up. In Div 4, the H team gave their promotion hopes a terrific boost with a 9-1 win over Ringwood C, and they need only to draw against fellow contenders Bmth Sports R to take the G’s place in Div 3.

Rising star Matthew Daish’s desire for Premier League action next season was encapsulated in his magnificent performance in Div 1 as his hat-trick helped his B team to a 5-5 draw against Bmth Sports F.  Not only did he beat ex-Premier player Lee Devaney, but he also gained personal satisfaction from beating fellow starlet Zac Dowling.

STOP PRESS! G TEAM ARE PROMOTED AS CHAMPIONS!

The G team (Frank Handy, Peter Daish and Jack Fisher) beat close rivals Merton E by 6-4 on Tuesday night (2nd April) to take the Div 3 title with a week still left to go.  Many congratulations to the whole squad: Frank Handy (captain), Andrew Daish, Simon Daish, Peter Daish, Bobo Jiang, as well as Matthew Winter and Danny Williams who both played up from Div 4.  Well done chaps and good luck in Div 2 next season!

G’s NEARLY THERE! (WEEK 20 RESULTS)

The New Milton G team could still go up to Div 2 as Div 3 champions but they were forced to a 5-5 draw by Bmth Sports M away at Chapel Gate. A special mention must go to Danny Williams who played up from Div 4 to claim two scalps in Div 3. The G’s have a tough run-up in the final two weeks of the season as they face third-placed Merton E, then second-placed Ringwood B. However they need only take a point off Merton to secure promotion to the higher echelons.

The H team, who are currently second in Div 4, also kept their promotion hopes alive with an excellent 7-3 win over Merton G, courtesy of hat-tricks from Matthew Winter and Svet Ignatov. The Jays are top of Div 5 and did their title hopes no harm either with a 9-1 victory over the K team in their local derby. However, they have a “bye” in the final week so they will just have to sit it out. Read the rest of this entry

E’s EASE THEIR WAY INTO THE “PLATE” SEMIS (T&D RESULTS)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club now has only one team left in the Annual Times & Directory Handicap Cup competition as the B team crashed out of their “Cup” semi-final and the E team booked their place in the “Plate” semi-finals.

First the good news; the E team who normally play in Div 3 took on Div 4’s Merton H in the quarter-finals of the “Plate” and beat them fairly comfortably by 5-1 at the Mudeford Wood Community Centre. Matthew Winter, playing off a +19 handicap, literally got the ball rolling by beating Merton’s Alan Dufall (+22) by 2-1, Simon Golding (+18) beat Reinhard Lindner (+21) in another three-setter, but there was a slight stumble as captain Bev Scott-Johns (+21) lost to Dave Poynton (+22). However, it was plain sailing thereafter as the Milton trio won their next three games in straight sets to take the match. They have been drawn against a fellow Div 3 side, Merton A, the match to be played at the neutral venue of Winton YMCA on Thursday 11th April. Read the rest of this entry

Derby Double Delight For New Milton E (Week 19 Results)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club could only muster three wins in the Bournemouth and District league last week, and one of those wins was at the expense of one of their own teams in a local derby. The E team did the double over the F team in the second of their local derbies in Div 3 as they beat them 4-6. Once again, Simon Golding proved to be the F’s nemesis with yet another hat-trick against them.

Hobbs Russles Up His First Hat-Trick Of The Season! (Week 18 Results)

New Milton Table Tennis Club managed to win six out of their nine matches in the Bournemouth and District league last week. Roy Hobbs’ first treble of the campaign helped his D team to a crucial 7-3 victory over Ringwood A in Div 2 along with a brace apiece from captain Terry Jenvey and Bob Fagan.

ROY’S THE BOY!

Amongst a number of other notable individual performances, a special mention must go to the H team’s Matthew Winter. Not only did he win all his matches for his H team in Div 4, but he also got a hat-trick when he played up in Div 3 for the G team. Read the rest of this entry

Honours Even in Table Tennis Derby! (Week 17 Results)

New Milton Table Tennis Club won five matches in the Bournemouth and District league last week with one of the wins coming at the expense of one of their own teams in a local derby. The G team were out for revenge having lost 4-6 to their E team in their first-round clash in Div 3, and so it proved as they beat their club mates 8-2 at the Arnewood School. It looked like turning into a rout as the G’s won the first eight matches, but the E’s captain Bev Scott-Johns spared the blushes by beating Bobo Jiang, and then Simon Golding & Clive Pitts just nicked the doubles from Frank Handy & Peter Daish by 13-11 in the fifth and final set.

The B team did their chances of survival in Div 1 no harm at all with a 10-0 whitewash over basement boys Bransgore at home at Mudeford Wood Community Centre. The B’s have to sweat it out next week however as they have a “bye”. Read the rest of this entry
