Double Derby Delight For The Jays! (Week 13 Results)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club came up with four wins out of eight matches in the Bournemouth and District League, an exact repeat of their performance in the first round of matches.

Div 5 saw the second of the local derbies between the J and K teams with the Jays doing the double over their club mates. They improved on their first-round 6-4 win with the more emphatic 8-2 scoreline which included a hat-trick from Geoff Biggs, his first of the campaign.  J team captain Lynn Willrich (pictured below) bagged a brace as did thirteen year old Elliot Storr-Smith, and they combined well to win the doubles to land maximum points.

In the Premier, the A team did the double over Winton YMCA A and improved on their first-round 9-1 result with a 10-0 whitewash thanks to hat-tricks from captain Steve Hemmings, Brian Vibert and Phil Daish-Handy. The complete reverse happened to the struggling C side in Div 1 as they were drubbed 0-10 by Merton C away at Southbourne.

Also in Div 1 the B team repeated their 8-2 victory over Merton E aided and abetted by hat-tricks from captain Shaun Newcomb and England veteran Brian Bickell. In Div 3, the table-topping G team did likewise to bottom-dwellers Ringwood C thanks to trebles from Simon Golding and Clive Pitts.  Full results details appear below:- Read the rest of this entry

HANDY’S HANDY HAT TRICK! (WEEK 12 RESULTS)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club got the second half of the Bournemouth and District league underway by repeating its first week’s haul of three wins out of six matches. One of these came at the expense of one of their own teams as the high-flying E team did the double over the D team in Div 2.

The E’s captain Frank Handy led from the front in their 6-4 victory with a hat-trick including an excellent win over teenage sensation Kai Major who had only dropped one match in the first round of matches.

Up in the Premier, the A team reprised their 8-2 win over Merton B courtesy of hat-tricks from captain Steve Hemmings and newly wed Phil Daish-Handy playing his first match of the season.

The club’s other win came in Div 4 as the H team did the double over Merton J with a 6-4 away win aided and abetted by a hat-trick from George Roberts.

The K team’s Andrew Stainton came ascloseasthis to recording his first hat-trick of the campaign, but he just lost 11-13 in the fifth and final end to Merton K veteran Ron Watson.  Full results details are below:- Read the rest of this entry

BEES & GEES COME OUT ON TOP IN LOCAL DERBIES (WEEK 11 RESULTS)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club signed off the first half of the Bournemouth and District league with two excellent wins which unfortunately came at the expense of their own teams in two local derbies.

The bigger win came in Div 3 as the G team whitewashed their F team 10-0, courtesy of hat-tricks from Simon Golding, Clive Pitts and Danny Williams.

Up in Div 1, it was a “Clash of the Zoltans” as the B team hammered their C team by 8-2. The B’s Zoltan Karip-Barath won 2, including a fairly comfortable win over fellow Hungarian Zoltan Ordog, and Shaun Newcomb joined him in a brace. England veteran Brian Bickell came up with his fourth hat-trick for his B team by beating Ordog, Julie Smillie and Matt Winter. Once again Smillie (pictured below) proved to be Newcomb’s bogey player albeit it by 11-9 in the fifth end, and she also beat Karip-Barath to amass the C team’s only two wins. The doubles would have earned a precious point for the C’s, but it wasn’t to be as Smillie and Ordog lost out over three high-scoring ends to the very tricky combination of Bickell and wheelchair-player Newcomb.

Div 2 saw thirteen year old Kai Major come up with his fourth hat-trick of the season, but his D team still lost 4-6 against the high-flying Broadstone B down at Mudeford Wood.  Full results details below:- Read the rest of this entry

EASY WIN FOR THE E’S! (WEEK 10 MATCHES)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club came up with four wins out of ten matches in the Bournemouth and District league last week. The club’s best win came in Div 2 as the E team whitewashed Bmth Sports F 10-0 down at the Grange, courtesy of hat-tricks from Frank Handy (captain), James Lewis and Peter Daish, recording his first treble of the season. However, the F team were on the wrong end of a whitewash in Div 3 as they were hammered 0-10 by Nimrod A down at the Winton YMCA. Captain Malcolm Nash commented afterwards that it certainly didn’t feel like a “0-10”, especially as half the matches went all the way to five ends. Milton were certainly worth a point but unfortunately they came away with nowt.

The club’s next best win came in the Premier as the A team put Winton YMCA B to the sword with a 9-1 win home at the Grange. Captain Steve Hemmings led from the front with his second hat-trick of the campaign and Phil Handy marked his first appearance with a treble. Wheelchair player Shaun Newcomb played up from Div 1 and put in a magnificent display to bag a brace and help his captain to win the doubles in three straight ends.

The G team had a busy week in Div 3 as they played two matches including one carried over from the previous week. They got off to a good start by taking maximum points off Broadstone C in an 8-2 victory at Mudeford Wood, courtesy of a second hat-trick from Clive Pitts and a brace apiece from Simons Daish and Golding. However, the Gees were missing Pitts for their rearranged match against Bmth Sports H who held them to a 5-5 draw at the Grange. The two Simons put in a repeat performance and forced the draw with a humdinger of a doubles match which they edged 17-15 in the fifth and final set.

The J team came up with their second win in Div 5 as they beat Winton YMCA F 7-3 at the Grange including a second hat-trick from 13 year old Elliott Storr-Smith in his maiden season.  Full results details below: Read the rest of this entry

First Hat-Trick Of The Season For Cap’n Les! (Week 9 Results)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club won three out of its seven matches in the Bournemouth and District league last week, the best result coming from their H team (Div 4) who demolished Shamrock B 9-1 in their own back yard. Captain Les Smith (pictured below) led from the front with his first hat-trick of his campaign and he was joined in his treble by George Roberts.

At the wrong end of a 9-1 scoreline, the B team suffered their worst defeat of the campaign in Div 1 as they were hammered by Bmth Sports D down at Chapel Gate. England Veteran Brian Bickell drew his first blank of the season, but Milton’s blushes were spared by Zoltan Karip-Barath who picked up his team’s solitary win.

Div 2 saw the E team beat Ringwood B by 7-3 home at the Grange courtesy of hat-tricks from captain Frank Handy and James Lewis. The club’s other win came in Div 3 as the F team beat Bmth Sports K 6-4 at Mudeford Wood aided and abetted by Mike Roberts’ second hat-trick of the season. The F’s captain Malcolm Nash came very close to recording his first treble of the campaign as he was level-pegging after the fourth end, having lost the first two against Bourne’s Ali Malloch. However, after giving his all, the fifth proved a bridge too far as he went down 5-11 to wave goodbye to his first treble, at least for the time being.  Full results are below:- Read the rest of this entry

MIXED BAG OF CUP RESULTS FOR NEW MILTON

There was a break in the Bournemouth and District Table Tennis league programme as last week was given over to Round 1 of the Annual Times & Directory Handicap Cup competition. Of the four New Milton teams in that Round, two were eliminated from the Cup, but two progressed through to Round 2 without so much as a single racquet raised in anger.

The D team (Terry Jenvey, Norma Millward & Bob Fagan) had sailed into Round 1 because their Preliminary Round opposition had withdrawn from the competition. The Dees, who normally play in Div 2 had to travel to Southbourne to take on Merton K from Div 5, only to lose 2-7 to exit the cup. The Milton players found the handicap differentials very hard going, but Bob Fagan (pictured below) played very steadily to pick up his side’s two wins. However, the Dees live to fight another day as they go into the consolation “Plate” competition along with Preliminary Round losers the G and K teams.

The B team (Shaun Newcomb, Brian Bickell & John Millward) earned their place in Round 1 by right of conquest in the Preliminary Round, but hit the buffers against Ringwood B who are one division below them in Div 2. England veteran Brian Bickell played very cannily to pick up a hat-trick, while John Millward came up with one win, but an off-colour captain Shaun Newcomb drew a blank. It was level pegging at 4-4 when Millward came to play the decider against Ringwood’s Julian Preston, but Millward lost in two straight ends, so Milton lost 4-5.

The C and E teams captained by Malcolm Floyd and Frank Handy respectively breezed into Round 2 as their opposing teams were unable to put out teams.

FIRST WIN FOR THE JAYS! (WEEK 8 RESULTS)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club’s teams came up with four wins out of ten matches in the Bournemouth and District league last week. The J team were celebrating their first win of the campaign while their captain Lynn Willrich was away on business in Florida. Fourteen year old Campbell Golding bagged a brace in his very first match of the season, and was joined in his double by 13 year old Elliott Storr-Smith and the not-quite-so-young Geoff Biggs to make it 6-4 against Bmth Sports N in Div 5.

Another thirteen year old, Kai Major is now scoring hat-tricks for fun as his treble helped his D team to their second 7-3 win in a row in Div 2, this week against North Bmth away at Winton. Also in Div 2, the E team got back to winning ways as they beat Merton F 8-2 courtesy of hat-tricks from captain Frank Handy and James Lewis home at the Grange. The club’s best win however came in Div 3 as the G team hammered the high-flying Merton G 9-1 at the Mudeford Wood Community Centre. Danny Williams (pictured below) came up with his second hat-trick of the season whilst Simon Daish topped that with his third treble.

The Premier saw the top of the table clash where mathematically at least the New Milton A team could exchange places at the top of the league with leaders Bmth Sports B if they beat them. As it happened the Bourne team turned up a player short which gifted Milton a point from their 3-7 defeat.

FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON FOR NEW MILTON D! (WEEK 7 RESULTS)

The New Milton Table Tennis Club’s teams managed to win four out of their nine matches in the Bournemouth and District league last week. The D team secured their first win of the season in Div 2 as they beat Ringwood A 7-3 at Mudeford Wood aided and abetted by a hat-trick from thirteen year old Kai Major, his second of the campaign. Young Major was voted the club’s most improved player last season and his progress continues apace as he made the seamless transition from Div 4 to Div 2.  Kai is pictured below receiving his “Most Improved Player of the Year” award from Club President Bob Fagan back in July.

The club’s best victory however came in Div 1 as the B team beat Breamore 8-2 in their own back yard. England veteran Brian Bickell came up with his third hat-trick this season and in so doing deprived ex club mate Geoff Ware of his 100% record. Ware got his revenge on Shaun Newcomb and Zoltan Karip-Barath who had to settle for two apiece. The doubles were needed for maximum points and Bickell and Newcomb did the honours.

The F team came up with their second win in a row as they beat Div 3 strugglers Ringwood C by 6-4 at Mudeford Wood. Also in Div 3, the G team got back to winning ways as they beat Merton H 7-3 in their own back yard. Simon Golding dropped a match for the second week in a row, but the team’s other Simon (Daish) came up with his second treble of the campaign.

Despite a hat-trick from captain Frank Handy, his E team still managed to lose 4-6 to fellow Div 2 high-fliers Broadstone B at Mudeford Wood. The club’s other treble-maker, new signing Francis Benjamin helped his K team to hold Bmth Sports N to a 5-5 draw down at Chapel Gate.
