Mixed Bag Of Cup Results for New Milton (T&D Prelim Round)
There was a break in the Bournemouth and District Table Tennis League as the week was given over to the Preliminary Round of the Annual Times and Directory Handicap Cup Competition. Nine of the New Milton Club’s eleven teams were entered into the competition, and five of them were drawn into the Preliminary Round, with mixed results.
The Cup provides an interesting diversion from the league programme in that it enables teams from across all divisions to be drawn against each other in a handicapped competition, best of three matches up to 31, with no doubles.
The only team to go through to Round One on merit was the L team from Div 5 (Richard Clampin, Dominic Stainton & Andrew Stainton) who just beat Div 5 fellows Bmth Sports R 5-4 at the Arnewood School. Clampin got the ball rolling by beating Bourne’s Tom Collins in two straight ends, and it was nip and tuck up to the ninth and final match when Clampin beat Bourne veteran Jim Simmonds 31-30 in the third end to win the tie. The D team got a much easier passage into Round One as Merton K had to concede their match because they were unable to put out a team.
The Div 2’s C team (Matt Winter, Dave Cuddon & Simon Golding) narrowly lost 3-5 to Bmth Sports E from Div 1, and the F team (Ian Linney, Sylvia Smith & Malcolm Nash) lost to Div 3 fellows Bmth Sports J by the even closer margin of 4-5 in the final match. The Club’s other team from Div 3, the G team (Bev Scott-Johns, Bill Page & Simon Golding) lost 1-5 against Winton YMCA B who normally ply their trade in Div 1.
So, the L and D teams go into the Round One draw with their club mates in the A, B, E and J teams, and the matches will be played week commencing 2nd December. However, the losing C, F and G teams live to fight another day as they will go into the consolation “Plate” competition which will be played week commencing 20th January 2014. FULL HOUSE FOR NEW MILTON E TEAM (WEEK 8 MATCHES)
The New Milton Table Tennis Club came up with exactly the same batch of results in the Bournemouth and District league as the previous week, namely 4 wins, 1 draw and 5 defeats.
The Club’s best performance came from the table-topping E team in Div 2 as they whitewashed Ringwood A 10-0 at the Arnewood School. Gerard Redman marked his first game of the season with a hat-trick and he was joined in his treble by captain Frank Handy and Peter Daish.
Also in Div 2, the third placed C team continued to pile on the pressure as they beat Lynwood C 9-1 in their own back yard. Matt Winter (pictured below) chalked up his first hat-trick of the campaign and Svet Ignatov came up with his second treble in a row.

E’S ARE GOOD FOR LOCAL DERBY! (WEEK 7 MATCHES)
New Milton Table Tennis Club had a slightly better week in the Bournemouth and District league as their teams registered four wins out of ten matches. One of these wins came at the expense of one of their own teams as the E team got the better of the D team in their Div 2 derby.
Captain fantastic Frank Handy recorded his fifth consecutive hat-trick in a row for the E’s to help his unbeaten side defeat their D team club mates 6-4. Also in Div 2, the C team walloped Merton F 9-1 at Mudeford Wood aided and abetted by first hat-tricks from Dave Cuddon and Svet Ignatov. The E’s are still top of the pile but the C’s are breathing down their necks from third place.
Thirteen year old Matthew Daish (pictured) proved that his hat-trick in the Premier last week was no fluke as his second treble helped his A team to claim maximum points from Bmth Sports C. Daish was joined in his treble by captain Steve Hemmings who clocked up his first hat-trick of the season.
It was all good news from the top teams as the second-placed B team put some daylight between themselves and third-placed Bmth Sports E as they beat them 6-4 in their own back yard. New signing John Millward quickly got over his debut duck last week to come up with an impressive hat-trick against Bourne. Full results details are below:- Read the rest of this entry
Another Golden Performance From Golding! (Week 6 Matches)
The New Milton Table Tennis Club’s teams were only able to register three wins out of their nine matches in the Bournemouth and District League last week.
There were some terrific individual performances once again however, with the G team’s Simon Golding recording his second hat-trick to help his side to only their second victory in Div 3. Golding capped his evening by helping Bev Scott-Johns to win the doubles to make it 7-3. Malcolm Floyd came up with his second hat-trick in a row as he captained his C team to victory in Div 2.
Dave Strike is scoring hat-tricks for fun in Div 4 as he helped his H team to hold Merton J to a 5-5 draw, and 15 year old Peter Daish is doing likewise for his unbeaten E team in Div 2. Read the rest of this entry

PREMIER JOY FOR BIRTHDAY BOY! (WEEK 5 MATCHES)
All eleven of the New Milton Table Tennis Club’s teams were in action in the Bournemouth and District league last week, but they could only match the three wins from their nine teams from the previous week.
Rising starlet Matthew Daish celebrated his thirteenth birthday a couple of days early as he got off the mark in the Premier with an amazing hat-trick for his A team against Winton YMCA A. The teenager capped his perfect evening by helping Steve Hemmings to win the doubles to gain maximum points from their 8-2 victory at the YMCA, their first win of the season.
Malcolm Floyd came up with his first hat-trick in Div 2 as he captained his C team to an 8-2 maximum-pointer (their first!) over Ringwood A in their own back yard. Frank Handy matched Floyd’s Div 2 treble as he led his E team to a 7-3 win over Merton D at the Arnewood School. The homecoming Dave Strike clocked up his third hat-trick in a row as he helped his H team to a 5-5 draw against the high-flying Shamrock A (Div 4) at the Mudeford Wood Community Centre.
Mike Roberts came up with his first hat-trick in Div 4 as he helped his struggling J team to take a point off Merton J. He capped his evening by helping to win the doubles to make it 4-6. Full results details are below:- Read the rest of this entry
Good Away-Days For New Milton Table Tennis Players
The New Milton Table Tennis Club’s teams could only muster three wins out of nine matches in the Bournemouth and District league last week, but one of them was a real humdinger from the K team in Div 5 as they trounced Winton YMCA G by 9-1 in their own back yard.
16 year old Lucy Craddock came up with her first ever hat-trick in the league as did promising new signing Alex Whitehead. Captain Fern Daish bagged a brace and then Lucy capped her evening by helping Fern to win the doubles.
The next best result came from the New Milton E team as they beat Lynwood C by 8-2 chez Lynwood. Captain Frank Handy led from the front with yet another hat-trick and was joined in his treble by 15 year old Peter Daish. Bobo Jiang had to be content with a brace for the second week running.
Other players worthy of a mention are Terry Jenvey (D team captain) who came up with his first hat-trick of the season and the H team’s Dave Strike who clocked up his second treble in a row. A very busy Richard Brockbank played up for the H team in Div 4 helping them to a 5-5 draw, and the following night helped his own L team to snatch a point in Div 5. New signing Richard Clampin also played his part in that by registering his first win in the league. Read the rest of this entry
SIX OF THE BEST FOR NEW MILTON CLUB
After failing to come up with a single win the previous week, the New Milton Club’s teams chalked up a very impressive six wins out of ten matches last week. The B team in Div 1 were gifted a 10-0 victory and four points as Lynwood A were sadly unable to put out a side. Five of Milton’s teams (C, D, E G & H) were relieved to get off the mark with their first wins of the season, and the K team were ascloseasthis in joining them in the pantheon of latter-day victors. Milton were 5-4 up going into the doubles when Lucy Craddock and Fern Daish took on the Bourne pairing of Jonathan Gibson and Adam Garraway. The ladies, buoyed up by their two singles wins each, were hitting very well and they were level pegging at 2-2 after the fourth set. Victory was not to be however as the fifth and final set just slipped from their grasp as they just lost by 9-11.

Fern Daish came up with two wins for her K team
A NO-WIN SITUATION FOR NEW MILTON CLUB
You would have to go all the way back to the 2009/2010 season to find the last time that the New Milton Club failed to win any of their matches in the Bournemouth and District Table Tennis league. And that’s when they only had eight teams instead of the eleven teams that they have now. The complete tally for last week was three draws, seven defeats and one bye.
The D team came the closest to victory as they only needed the doubles to beat Merton F in Div 2. The Milton pairing of Terry Jenvey (captain) and hat-trick hero Chris Pusey were 2-1 up after the third set and narrowly lost the fourth set by the tantalisingly close 10-12 scoreline. They ran out of steam a bit in the fifth and final set which they lost 4-11 to have to settle for the draw.
The only other Milton player to register a hat-trick was the E team captain Frank Handy whose side did very well to hold a very strong Bmth Sports F to a draw in their own back yard.

IFFY START FOR NEW MILTON TABLE TENNIS CLUB
The Bournemouth and District Table Tennis League got underway last week with more lows than highs for the New Milton Club who entered eleven teams this season. Their tally for the week was 2 wins, 5 defeats and 3 draws, one of the ties coming from the first of the club’s local derbies between the E and C teams in Div 3.
Lightening the gloom somewhat, there was a brilliant Premier league debut from the club’s new signing, 14 year old Ben Cawston who kicked off with a brilliant hat-trick for the A team. 15 year old Peter Daish (E team), one of the stars of the team who won Div 3 last season, marked his Div 2 debut with a stunning hat-trick over his club mates in the C team. The other treble makers were England Veteran Brian Bickell (B team), Ian Linney (F team) and Simon Golding from the G team.

Another of the club’s up and coming youngsters, 12 year old Kai Major also distinguished himself by bagging a brace while playing up a division for the F team in Div 3. Read the rest of this entry
